EPILEPSY

Epilepsies are a group of entirely diverse disorders. What is common to all of them is that seizures occur from time to time, usually without any warning sign.

Epileptic seizures are caused by functional disturbances of the brain. Their clinical manifestation is dependent to a great extent on which area of the brain is malfunctioning. Epileptic seizures are classified into two groups: “focal seizures”, which originate in a localized spot in the brain, and “generalized seizures”, which involve the entire brain from the start. This classification refers only to the start of the seizure. In principle, any focal seizure can become generalized over the course of the seizure.
